BMW has a longstanding relationship with Brilliance in China, but needs to partner with which to create a Chinese brand for the country’s big EV push — as Mercedes has done with its Denza joint venture with BYD.
The very ambitious SUV maker, led by President Wang Fengying, the female chief executive driving the company’s interest in Jeep, is probably behind such talk. Some conspiracy thinkers last week were puzzling out a scheme whereby a Great Wall-BMW partnership could be a prelude to reeling in Jeep.
