General Motors has taken the lead in this new era of OEM partnering with newcomers to the transportation space, tying up with Lyft and Cruise Automation, Now Toyota has joined the party, linking with Uber to explore ride-sharing and leasing opportunities.
Meanwhile, Ford has suggested that it will not be left behind, promising to look for new partnerships with fledgling companies. Indeed, this is a game of tactical follow-the-leader and with Ford and GM it goes back decades. Strategy by imitation. Why do Toyota’s maneuverings somehow seem more considered?
