The opening of Iran that came with the Iran nuclear deal in 2015 created opportunities for French carmakers, which have a history in the country. Now, despite Donald Trump’s efforts to isolate Iran, Renault has joined PSA in announcing plans to dramatically ramp up production in the country.
Renault has been building cars in Iran for nearly 15 years and will now increase production there by 75 percent. It may violate United States trade barriers in place against business with Iran, but Carlos Ghosn would not have moved forward without the support of his former adversary, Emmanuel Macron.
